Bungie Announces Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph, Final Live Content Update Drops in June
Bungie has officially announced that Destiny 2 will receive its final live-service content update on June 9, 2026. The update, titled Monument of Triumph, marks the end of active development on the game as the studio shifts focus toward new projects and, of course, ongoing support for Marathon (which is gearing up for its second season in June).
“It has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2,” the studio said in their announcement. Bungie confirmed the game will remain playable after the update, similar to how the original Destiny exists today, but with no more updates or seasonal events.
What’s in the Update
Monument of Triumph is built around a celebration of the game’s nine-year run. Legendary Marks return as an earnable currency tied to a wide array of Triumphs, granting access to free armor ornaments, weapon engrams, accessories, and a new exclusive Title for completionists.
The Director is coming back in a refreshed form, replacing the Portal as the central hub for activities. All Portal content remains available through nodes at the bottom of the Director.
Pantheon 2.0 arrives as a permanent addition with a new slate of bosses. The first encounters unlock June 9, the full gauntlet opens June 13, and rotating featured encounters begin June 16.
Raid and dungeon weapons and armor are being brought to modern standards with full Tier parity, set bonuses, and new perks. Crafted weapons will receive a Tier 1-5 upgrade path. Destination loot is getting the same treatment, with new Distortions adding challenge and unique rewards to planetary content.
The sandbox update includes new Aspects for Solar Hunter, Void Warlock, and Solar Titan, new grenades for all classes, and ability reworks across all three classes including a complete Ward of Dawn overhaul. All Exotic armor from The Edge of Fate forward will be automatically upgraded to Tier 5 stats.
Crucible is getting three new game modes, Iron Banner moves to a four-week rotation, and Trials returns on non-Iron Banner weekends. Gambit is being upgraded to an Ops category with new tiered weapons and armor. Sparrow Racing League returns as a permanent mode with new weapons, armor sets, and a new track alongside the returning originals.
Seasonal events are being retired, with their weapon rewards available through Monument of Triumph vendors going forward.
Bungie says weekly blog updates will continue through the launch window before entering hibernation, with communications continuing through social media and Discord. No details on what comes next for the studio as it relates to the Destiny franchise.
Patriot’s Point: I’ll have some thoughts to share about this later, but it’s not really surprising, but also bittersweet. I’ve got thousands and thousands of hours in this game, and I can’t say I ever expected them to just say “our final update drops in a couple of weeks.” But really, it should’ve ended with Final Shape so it is what is.
