Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Best Settings to Use Right Now (Console)
Ubisoft brought a remade Black Flag back to current-gen, and if you’re diving back into Edward Kenway’s world on PS5 (or Xbox Series X) or PS5 Pro, you don’t want to just leave everything on default. I went through every menu so you don’t have to, and here’s exactly what to change to get the best experience out of Resynced. This guide is focused on console, because that’s what I play, but most applies to PC as well.
Performance Settings
Performance Mode is the way to go here. You’re getting 60 FPS on both PS5 and PS5 Pro, and that smoothness matters a ton in a game built around fast sailing and parkour chains. Balanced Mode caps you at 40 FPS, and unless you’re chasing max visual fidelity over everything else, I don’t see a reason to sacrifice that responsiveness.
Visual Settings
A few toggles here make a real difference in how the game feels to look at:
- Chromatic Aberration: Off. This kills the weird color distortion you get, especially underwater. It’s not doing you any favors visually.
- Motion Blur: Off. Turning this off keeps the picture sharp while you’re moving instead of smearing everything together.
- Camera Effects: Off. This one’s big during naval combat and mini-games. Killing the dynamic blurring and distortion gives you a much clearer view when things get chaotic on the water.
- HDR: Turn it on if your setup supports it and you think it looks good. I always leave it off. Just tune your max luminance to your TV. OLED owners should sit around 1000 nits, and if you’re running an LED, QLED, or mini-LED display, push that number higher.
Camera and Controls
Sensitivity is worth experimenting with because it’s a personal preference. Bump it up to 15 if you want that camera whipping around fast during combat and exploration. If that feels like too much, dial it back to 10 or just leave it on default.
Stick Dead Zones should be set to 10 on both sticks. That gives you tighter control without sacrificing precision. Only bump this number up if you start noticing stick drift on your controller.
Adaptive Triggers come down to personal preference. If you like the resistance, leave them on default. If they annoy you, drop them to light or turn them off entirely. I turn them off
Audio Settings
Controller Speaker: Off. There’s no reason to have extra noise coming out of your controller while you’re trying to immerse yourself in the Caribbean.
Music Frequency: Set this to High. Black Flag’s soundtrack is one of the best in the series, and you want to hear it as often as possible while sailing.
Dynamic Range depends on your setup. Full Range works best if you’ve got a high end sound system or good headset. Medium is the play for more basic setups. If you’re gaming late at night and don’t want to wake up the house, Night Mode keeps dialogue clear at low volumes.
Accessibility and Comfort
Camera Dot: Turn this on. It reduces motion sickness and gives you a fixed reference point so you always know where you’re looking, especially helpful during naval battles or fast parkour sequences.
Screen Shake and Ship Camera Sway: Off. Stabilizing the camera here makes both combat and sailing feel a lot cleaner and easier to track.
Combat Settings
Aim Assist is about how you want to play. Moderate or Medium is the standard recommendation for most players. If you want extra help, crank it to Full. If you’re looking for more of a challenge and want to test your own skill, drop it to Light or turn it off completely.
Gameplay Quality of Life
Free Jump: Keep this on, no reason to have it off unless you just want the feel of the old game.
Advanced Parkour: Turn this on. This brings back the classic side-ejects and back-ejects that longtime fans of the series expect. It makes traversal feel a lot more fluid and gives you more control over how Edward moves through the world.
Area Loot: Turn this on immediately. Instead of individually looting every downed enemy after a fight, one button press grabs everything nearby. Huge time saver, especially during bigger skirmishes.
Skip Quick Time Events: Turn this on, QTE’s are always terrible, and this will save you some time when being attacked by a shark while exploring underwater.
Unlimited Oxygen is a personal call. If you’re focused on trophy hunting or just want to clean up the map fast, turn it on and skip the underwater survival mechanic entirely. If you want the more authentic experience Ubisoft originally designed, leave it off and manage your oxygen like Edward would.
Get these dialed in before you set sail, and Black Flag Resynced is going to feel like the best version of this game we’ve had yet.
