Dispatches From the Halls: Happy Halloween! Have Fun, Be Safe, and Don’t Be Stupid

Gary Smith
Titanquisitor Hero Halloween

Happy Halloween, everybody!

Whether you’re spending the evening taking the kids trick-or-treating, handing out candy, watching horror movies, playing something spooky, or just sitting at home wondering how the hell October is already over, I hope you have a wonderful Halloween.

I also hope you have a safe one.

Now, I’m not going to give you some lengthy lecture about Halloween safety. Most of this stuff is common sense, although judging by some of the things I’ve seen over the years, common sense isn’t always quite as common as we’d like to believe.

If you’re driving tonight, slow down and pay attention. There are going to be kids running around neighborhoods, and some of them will be far more concerned about getting to the next house than looking both ways before crossing the street. If you’re taking your own kids trick-or-treating, keep an eye on them, make sure they can be seen, and watch out for traffic.

And if you’re planning to celebrate with a few adult beverages, don’t get behind the wheel. Call somebody, arrange a ride, or stay where you are. A good time isn’t worth ruining somebody’s life, including your own.

Basically, have fun, enjoy yourself, and don’t be stupid.

There. That’s my annual public service announcement. I believe I’ve fulfilled my civic duty for another year.

Now, on to the fun stuff.

Halloween in the Halls of Titanquisitor

We’ve had ourselves one hell of a Halloween season here at Titanquisitor, and the gang has been busy putting together all sorts of spooky entertainment.

Movies, video games, professional wrestling, classic television, books, and more than a few questionable decisions courtesy of our resident Agent of Chaos.

If you’re looking for something to read while the trick-or-treaters make their rounds, or perhaps something to enjoy after the porch light goes off and the candy bowl is empty, we’ve got you covered.

Thalia's Spook-n-Boobtacular Halloween Countdown

Thalia’s Spook-n-Boobtacular

Thalia has spent the past thirteen days dragging us through a collection of horror movies that range from entertaining cult classics to films that probably should have remained buried in the back corner of a video rental store.

She’s laughed, she’s complained, she’s fallen in love with some truly ridiculous movies, and she’s given Theia enough reasons to file formal complaints to keep the Halls’ administrative department busy until Christmas.

Today, the madness reaches its conclusion with Spook-n-Boobtacular Day 13 – Return of the Living Dead Review, followed by her Spook-n-Boobtacular Wrap-Up, where she looks back at the entire thirteen-film adventure.

It’s been outrageous, frequently hilarious, occasionally bewildering, and exactly the sort of nonsense we enjoy around here.

Superstation Saturday #3: WCW Halloween Havoc 1991

For wrestling fans who prefer their Halloween entertainment with a side of early-’90s WCW insanity, we’ve got Superstation Saturday #3: WCW Halloween Havoc 1991 Review.

Step back into the days of old-school wrestling, when Halloween Havoc was one of the most distinctive events on the calendar and WCW could always be counted on to deliver something memorable, whether for the right reasons or the wrong ones.

NXT Halloween Havoc and AEW Fright Night Collision

Speaking of wrestling, Stinger has been lurking in the rafters preparing for a weekend of Halloween-themed action.

Check out our NXT Halloween Havoc Preview and AEW Fright Night Collision Preview for his thoughts on the announced matches, the stories heading into each show, and his predictions.

And yes, I’m sure he’ll have a few things to say about wrestling management along the way. He usually does.

Top 5 Twilight Zone Episodes

Theia’s Top 5 Twilight Zone Episodes to Watch on Halloween

If your idea of Halloween entertainment leans more toward classic television, atmospheric storytelling, and the sort of unsettling tales that stick with you long after the credits roll, Theia has something special.

In Theia’s Top 5 Twilight Zone Episodes to Watch on Halloween, our Lady of the Picture Palace shares five selections from one of television’s greatest series.

No chainsaws required. Just good storytelling, memorable twists, and that wonderful feeling of realizing something isn’t quite right.

I’m sure Theia appreciates having at least one Halloween feature she can discuss without needing to reprimand her sister.

From the Glyphkeeper’s Shelf

Our own Maddie, Keeper of the Glyphs, has also contributed to the Halloween festivities with a special installment of From the Glyphkeeper’s Shelf #2: The Haunting of Hill House — Some Houses Should Remain Empty.

If you’re in the mood for something spooky to read rather than watch, stop by the library and see what she’s selected.

Unlike certain other residents of the Halls, Maddie generally manages to conduct herself with a reasonable degree of professionalism.

I emphasize generally.

The Monster You Can't See Halloween Games Special

The Monster You Can’t See: Why the Best Horror Games Get Inside Your Head

Horror isn’t limited to movies and television, of course.

In The Monster You Can’t See: Why the Best Horror Games Get Inside Your Head, we explore why some of gaming’s most frightening experiences don’t depend on showing you a monster every five minutes.

Sometimes the anticipation is worse than anything waiting around the corner. A strange sound, an empty hallway, or the uneasy feeling that something is watching you can be far more effective than another creature jumping out of a closet.

For anyone who loves psychological horror in video games, this one’s worth checking out.

Dear Cassandra: A Celebration of The Woman Behind Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

Thalia’s Tribute to Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

And finally, we couldn’t celebrate Halloween without acknowledging one of horror entertainment’s most beloved personalities.

Thalia has written a lovely tribute to Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, celebrating Cassandra Peterson and the wonderfully outrageous character who helped make horror fun for generations of fans.

Given Thalia’s own tastes in movies, humor, and fashion, I’m sure you can understand why Elvira holds such a special place in her heart.

I suspect she’d happily spend the rest of the year talking about her.

Actually, scratch that. She probably will.

Until Next Halloween…

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has stopped by Titanquisitor this month, whether you’ve read one article or fifty, left a comment, shared something on social media, or simply wandered into the Halls to see what we’re up to. This was by far our biggest month since relaunching in February, and that’s wonderful because I put a ton of work into the site this month.

We put a lot of time into this little corner of the internet, and while it’s certainly nice when people find and enjoy what we’re doing, the whole point has always been to have fun.

That’s why I started Titanquisitor in the first place.

The internet doesn’t have to be nothing but arguments, bad news, outrage, and people taking themselves entirely too seriously. Sometimes it’s nice to have somewhere to talk about old video games, ridiculous horror movies, classic wrestling, and whatever else happens to make us smile.

And if that occasionally involves a Greek goddess reviewing Frankenhooker while her sister threatens to file a complaint with management, well, I suppose that’s just part of the experience.

So from me and the entire gang here in the Halls of Titanquisitor, Happy Halloween!

Enjoy the costumes, the candy, the movies, the games, and whatever else you’ve got planned.

Look out for one another, be especially careful around the little ones, and make some good memories.

And for the love of all things holy, don’t be stupid.

Making Internet Fun Again!

— Gary Smith

P.S. I have been informed that Thalia intends to begin planning next year’s Halloween festivities immediately. Theia has requested a formal meeting to discuss the matter.

I have decided to take the rest of the weekend off. There’s football to watch, although not my beloved Tide (Lord knows they need a rest), and of course plenty of wrestling that we’ll have to get through tonight!
