WWF NXT Results (10/20/26): Cruz Montana Arrested, Hank & Tank Shock the Creed Brothers

WWF The NXT Generation

The World Wrestling Federation‘s NXT Generation returned to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday night for another live episode of NXT, featuring two quarterfinal matches in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and the latest developments on the road to Halloween Havoc.

And if you thought the biggest story of the night would be somebody advancing in a tag team tournament, Cruz Montana had other ideas.

Montana’s increasingly personal rivalry with Dion Lennox erupted into an uncontrollable brawl that ended with security, police, and an arrest. Elsewhere, Hank and Tank pulled off a surprising victory over the Creed Brothers, the Wagner Brothers advanced in the Dusty Classic, and the women’s division finally received some attention despite another week of limited advance promotion.

Let’s get into the results.

Grayson Waller and Tony D’Angelo Exchange Words Ahead of Halloween Havoc

The show opened with Tony D’Angelo calling out NXT Champion Grayson Waller ahead of their championship match at Halloween Havoc.

Waller wasted little time reminding D’Angelo that their history goes back years, including their time together in WarGames. According to Waller, D’Angelo was always treated like the chosen one while he had to fight for recognition.

D’Angelo accused Waller of caring more about viral moments and internet attention than actually being a wrestler. Waller responded that having a personality isn’t a crime and insisted that beating D’Angelo would finally settle their longstanding rivalry.

The exchange grew increasingly personal, with both men taking shots at the other’s accomplishments before D’Angelo promised to drag Waller through hell at Halloween Havoc.

Stinger’s View: I like that they’re acknowledging the history between these two instead of pretending they met last Tuesday. Waller is an obnoxious little jackass, which is precisely what makes him effective in this role. D’Angelo has the opportunity to shut him up and reclaim the championship, but Waller has a habit of finding ways to survive.

The Wagner Brothers Defeat Birthright to Advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

Winners: El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno del Mal, by pinfall

The first Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic quarterfinal featured the Wagner Brothers taking on Birthright representatives Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King.

Dempsey and Wagner opened with some enjoyable technical wrestling before Galeno entered and began throwing his weight around. Birthright eventually isolated Wagner, using frequent tags and outside distractions to maintain control.

Galeno’s eventual return shifted the momentum, and the brothers began overwhelming their opponents with a combination of power and high-flying offense.

The closing moments saw Zilla Fatu appear at ringside and attack Uriah Connors, creating another distraction for Birthright. The Wagner Brothers capitalized, with Galeno connecting with a frog splash on Lexis King to secure the victory.

Following the match, Fatu continued attacking Birthright and planted Dempsey with a Samoan drop.

The Wagner Brothers advance to the semifinals, while Birthright has another problem on its hands.

Stinger’s View: This was a good tag team match, and I particularly enjoyed the contrast between Dempsey’s technical wrestling and Galeno’s power. The Wagner Brothers are an interesting addition to the tournament. As for Birthright, they might want to spend less time worrying about the Dusty Cup and more time worrying about Zilla Fatu.

Izzi Dame Defeats Layla Diggs

Winner: Izzi Dame, by pinfall

Well, look at that. NXT actually had a women’s wrestling match!

After an earlier backstage confrontation, Izzi Dame and Layla Diggs squared off in singles competition.

Dame used her size and strength advantage to control much of the contest, targeting Diggs’ previously injured shoulder. Diggs fought back with several impressive offensive combinations, including a powerslam, standing moonsault, and frog splash.

The closing sequence featured several counters before Dame avoided Diggs’ attempted finishing maneuver and connected with a running knee to score the pinfall.

Following the match, Women’s North American Champion Zaria confronted Dame over her recent personal attacks and offered her a championship match at Halloween Havoc.

Dame accepted the match but declined to put the championship on the line, insisting she didn’t need the title.

Stinger’s View: This was a welcome addition to the card, and both women had an opportunity to show what they could do. Dame getting a victory before her Halloween Havoc confrontation makes sense. Her refusal to challenge for the championship is interesting, too. Apparently, making Zaria miserable is more important to her than winning gold.

Hank and Tank Defeat the Creed Brothers in a Dusty Classic Upset

Winners: Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, by pinfall

The second Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic quarterfinal pitted Hank Walker and Tank Ledger against Julius and Brutus Creed.

On paper, the Creed Brothers looked like the favorites. Their amateur wrestling backgrounds and impressive athleticism make them one of the most formidable teams in NXT.

Hank and Tank apparently didn’t get that memo.

The match was a physical affair, with both teams exchanging heavy strikes, slams, and double-team maneuvers. The Creeds controlled lengthy portions of the contest, isolating their opponents and using their superior technique to prevent tags.

Hank and Tank refused to stay down, however, and eventually mounted a comeback.

In the closing moments, the referee became distracted by activity outside the ring, allowing Hank to assist Tank with a double-team maneuver. Tank made the cover and scored the three-count, sending Hank and Tank into the semifinals.

That’s a significant upset, and one that shakes up the tournament considerably.

Stinger’s View: Now THIS was the kind of result that makes a tournament interesting. I expected the Creed Brothers to advance, but Hank and Tank proved they belong in the conversation. The finish wasn’t entirely clean, which takes a little away from the upset, but it still gives the tournament an unexpected direction.

Hank and Tank will now face the Wagner Brothers in the semifinals, and that’s a match I want to see.

The Vanity Project’s Six-Man Tag Match Is Cancelled

The advertised six-man tag match featuring Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor, and Ricky Smokes against EK Prosper, Chazz “Starboy” Hall, and Mini Vikingo did not take place.

NXT General Manager Robert Stone announced that Mini Vikingo had not been medically cleared to compete, forcing the cancellation.

Instead, Stone informed Jackson Drake that he would defend the NXT North American Championship against EK Prosper next week.

Meanwhile, Baylor and Smokes will continue their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic campaign against Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno in the semifinals.

Stinger’s View: You know how I feel about The Vanity Project. They’re still not doing anything for me. But Jackson Drake defending his championship against EK Prosper could be interesting, and at least we’re getting a meaningful match out of the cancelled six-man tag.

Kelani Jordan Ruins the Women’s Championship Contract Signing

NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan was scheduled to sign the contract for her Halloween Havoc championship defense against Wren Sinclair.

Instead, Sinclair found herself dealing with a very different situation.

Jordan arrived dragging an already beaten Kendal Grey onto the stage, making it clear that she wasn’t interested in a conventional contract signing.

Sinclair immediately went to check on her friend, and the contract remained unsigned.

The segment added another personal dimension to the championship rivalry, although it did little to provide the advertised formalities.

Stinger’s View: Here’s where my complaint from the preview comes back into play. NXT has a talented women’s division, and there are several interesting stories developing. We had a women’s match tonight, Zaria and Izzi Dame advanced their feud, and Jordan made a statement against Sinclair.

So why aren’t we advertising more of this in advance?

You’ve got the talent. You’ve got the stories. Promote them!

Cruz Montana and Dion Lennox End in Chaos as Montana Is Arrested

Result: Double Countout

The main event featured Cruz Montana taking on Dion Lennox in a rivalry that had become increasingly personal over the previous several weeks.

Lennox had repeatedly targeted Montana’s past and family, and it was obvious from the opening bell that this wasn’t going to be a friendly wrestling contest.

The two exchanged heavy offense, with Montana showing considerable aggression while Lennox continued trying to get inside his opponent’s head.

Montana connected with several impressive maneuvers, including a springboard crossbody, superkick, and rolling stunner. Lennox answered with his own power offense and continued taunting Montana throughout the contest.

Eventually, Lennox pushed things too far.

Montana abandoned any pretense of trying to win a wrestling match and began attacking Lennox outside the ring. He speared Lennox through the barricade and continued the assault as the referee brought the contest to an end.

But Montana wasn’t finished.

He attacked Lennox on the exposed concrete floor and attempted to use the steel steps as a weapon. Cutler James intervened to protect Lennox, taking the impact himself.

Security and officials struggled to restore order, and Montana even struck a security guard during the chaos.

Authorities eventually arrived, restrained Montana, and placed him under arrest.

That’s certainly one way to end NXT.

Stinger’s View: I liked this ending. Not because I particularly enjoy watching wrestling matches end without a winner, but because the escalation made sense for the storyline. Lennox has been deliberately pushing Montana’s buttons, and tonight he finally got the reaction he was looking for.

The arrest gives the feud a new dimension and leaves us wondering what happens next. Hopefully, there’s a meaningful payoff at Halloween Havoc rather than another round of people shouting at each other backstage.

Other NXT Storyline Developments

The road to Halloween Havoc continued with several additional developments throughout the evening.

Myles Borne attacked Tavion Heights during an in-ring promo, reigniting their increasingly bitter rivalry. The two fought their way into the parking lot before security separated them.

Zilla Fatu continued pursuing Charlie Dempsey and requested that their Halloween Havoc match feature a stipulation determined by the traditional Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal concept.

NARAKU also delivered another ominous warning to Shiloh Hill ahead of their Halloween Havoc encounter.

And with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic semifinals now set, next week’s NXT promises to feature some important tournament action.

Stinger’s View: An Entertaining Show With Some Questionable Promotion

I’ll give NXT credit. Despite the relatively uninspiring advertised lineup, Tuesday night’s show delivered some entertaining wrestling and several meaningful storyline developments.

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was the highlight for me. The Wagner Brothers looked impressive against Birthright, and Hank and Tank upsetting the Creed Brothers was a genuine surprise. Both matches helped make the tournament feel important, and I’m looking forward to next week’s semifinals.

The main event between Cruz Montana and Dion Lennox was less about producing a great wrestling match and more about advancing a personal rivalry. In that respect, it accomplished its purpose. Montana losing control and getting arrested provided a memorable ending, even if we didn’t get a decisive winner.

The women’s division also received more attention than the advertised card suggested. Izzi Dame and Layla Diggs had a competitive match, Zaria confronted Dame, and Kelani Jordan made her presence felt ahead of Halloween Havoc.

Which brings me back to my original complaint.

Shawn Michaels, buddy, you’ve got a talented women’s roster. Why are we going into these shows with so little of that division advertised? If the women are going to be important to the show, then promote them like they’re important.

And no, springing a women’s match on us after the show begins doesn’t entirely solve that problem.

Having said that, Chantel Monroe has my attention. Damn, she’s a hottie. Don’t know why she’s doing a character so similar to Blake Monroe though. How the hell do you give someone the same last name AND make their characters seemingly similar? Don’t care, she’s hot, so I definitely want to see more.

Overall, though, this was a good episode of NXT. The Dusty Classic provided some quality wrestling, several Halloween Havoc stories progressed, and the main event gave us a memorable closing angle.

That’s going to do it for this week’s NXT results. We’ll be back next Tuesday as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic reaches the semifinals and the final preparations for Halloween Havoc continue.

Until then, this is Stinger, signing off from the rafters.
