Subject: A Reminder of Our Editorial Standards

It has recently come to my attention that certain individuals within the Halls have developed a rather troubling misunderstanding of what constitutes acceptable film criticism. I have always maintained that cinema is an art form deserving of thoughtful examination, intelligent discussion, and a reasonable degree of professionalism, which is why I was particularly dismayed to discover what passes for a review of Hocus Pocus under our own banner. While I certainly encourage enthusiasm for the movies we love, reducing a beloved Halloween classic to juvenile commentary about Sarah Sanderson, accompanied by an image bearing the single word “WOULD,” is hardly the standard I expect from anyone contributing to our film coverage. It is especially disappointing when such behavior comes from the very individual responsible for overseeing this establishment. I would remind everyone that the Picture Palace exists to celebrate the magic of cinema, not to provide an outlet for whatever adolescent thoughts happen to wander through the proprietor’s head.

Going forward, I expect anyone writing about motion pictures to demonstrate the dignity and respect that the cinematic arts deserve. There is certainly room for humor, personality, and the occasional lighthearted observation, but surely we can discuss a film without descending into the sort of foolishness better suited to the gaming department. If Titan wishes to spend his afternoons making ridiculous jokes about pixelated women, he is more than welcome to do so in his own corner of the Halls, but I will not have such nonsense becoming the standard of my weekly feature. I trust this reminder will be sufficient and that everyone, including management, will conduct themselves accordingly. After all, maintaining a little professionalism should not be an unreasonable expectation.
