Stinger’s View
Well Crown Jewel certainly delivered some worthwhile developments, namely Penta and Je’Von capturing the World Tag Team Championship which I didn’t see happening. It was good to see Oba again helping to neutralize the interference from the rest of The Vision. I’m not sure why Penta and Je’Von need the tag titles considering Penta has the MITB briefcase, but then it’s not like RAW has a lot of actual tag teams. Hopefully Breakker moves on to a more singles roles and hopefully away from The Vision.
Cody and Randy had a good, lengthy Last Man Standing match. Cody finally had it in him to punt Orton. Not the best Last Man Standing match we’ve ever seen, but it was a great way to start the afternoon.
The Women’s Crown Jewel Championship match was surprisingly good and I guess I didn’t give the two enough credit in my predictions column. I didn’t expect it to be bad, but I didn’t expect it to be good either. And we got a clean match too with an actual finish, imagine that. I liked that Chelsea got the win, even though I picked Liv. The aftermath with Liv attacking Chelsea, getting taking out by Tiffany and then Tiffany betraying Chelsea by hitting her with the briefcase and cashing in on her was well done. That’s one briefcase down, and thankfully it’s the one they’ve been teasing cashing in the most. It’s Tiffy Time again and I like it!
The main event was great and lasted about 25 minutes or so. I predicted Sami to win because I assumed 946 would make the trip and get involved, thankfully WWF subverted expectations and instead we got a great clean match. There were some moments where you might think for half a second that maybe Sami could pull it off, but we all knew that wasn’t going to happen without interference. Still, a great main event and you can’t argue with the Tribal Chief winning again and cleanly. I liked the end too where Sami wanted to shake Roman’s hand, only for Roman to slap it away and then hug him. Sami didn’t win the match, but he got what he wanted, acknowledgment and respect from Roman Reigns.
Overall, while it only had four matches (five if you count the cash-in), Crown Jewel was a very strong event heavy on wrestling and light on fluff. I don’t care about the whole Crown Jewel Championship nonsense, but the matches all delivered. Great show from the World Wrestling Federation.
Until next time, this has been Stinger reporting from the rafters of Titanquisitor Hall where the wrestling goes on pause and the football watching begins.
