Ubisoft has published a new deep dive for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced focusing on naval gameplay, led by lead Naval Designer Guilhem Marin.
The Jackdaw receives several quality-of-life upgrades in Resynced. Two new navigation tools have been added: Pathfinder highlights your route across the water while you stay at the helm, and Follow Sea is a full autopilot that steers the ship to your destination hands-free. Loading screens between naval gameplay and major cities have also been removed. All 35 original sea shanties return alongside 10 new ones, and a new shanty wheel lets you choose which one plays.
Naval combat gets a significant expansion. Every weapon on the Jackdaw now has a secondary firing mode that must be found and unlocked in the world. The Ram Dash, previously locked behind defeating all four Legendary Ships, is now available much earlier through a new officer called the Padre. New officer recruits each bring permanent perks: Lucy Baldwin unlocks a timed brace mechanic that nearly nullifies incoming damage, the Padre unlocks the Ram Dash, and Tobias “Deadman” Smith adds an extra broadside volley with minimal cooldown.
Forts now use a dynamic morale system rather than fixed objectives, and the commander will engage Edward directly once morale drops low enough. Weather has been upgraded with the Anvil Engine’s Atmos system, adding two waterspout types and lightning strikes that deal area damage.
Boarding ships now yields double the loot compared to sinking them, and a new Captain’s Lockbox option provides additional reales when boarding larger vessels like frigates and Man O’ Wars. Kenway’s Fleet is fully integrated into the game with no companion app required.
Legendary Ships return as endgame encounters and have been rebuilt to be more difficult than the originals. Defeating them rewards exclusive cosmetic skins for the Jackdaw. The four encounters are El Impoluto, HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign, La Dama Negra, and HMS Prince.
