007 First Light Gets New Trailer Showing Off Spy Gameplay Ahead of May 27 Launch

IO Interactive dropped a new trailer for 007 First Light today called “Rules of Spycraft,” and it gives the clearest look yet at how this game actually plays. Short version: it’s Hitman DNA applied to a James Bond origin story with a dash of Uncharted, and that looks pretty promising.

007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game featuring a fully original, reimagined origin story of a young James Bond. You play as a 26-year-old Bond, a Royal Navy air crewman who gets recruited into MI6. The 007 number isn’t handed to you. You earn it. Every encounter can be approached through stealth, social bluffing, or straight-up action depending on how you read the situation.

The trailer focuses on what IO is calling “Creative Approach” gameplay, and it breaks down into three pillars. Spycraft is the social stealth side. You infiltrate spaces by reading your surroundings, eavesdrop for intel, identify access points to your objectives, and use bluffing to move through guarded areas without raising alarms. If you played the Hitman trilogy and loved the disguise and social manipulation systems, this is that philosophy applied to a Bond game.

The gadget suite comes from Q Branch and it’s packed. The Q-Lens highlights useful information and hackable devices. The Q-Watch activates gadgets and interactions for diversions or neutralizing threats. The Laser Strap can daze enemies, open new paths, or create environmental distractions. The Dart Phone quietly removes enemies from the equation. Smoke Pods block visibility at short range. Flash Mines stun opponents with a burst of light. There are more beyond those, but the message is clear: IO wants you solving problems creatively, not just shooting your way through them.

When stealth breaks down, combat rewards improvisation. You can use the environment for close-quarters takedowns, rush enemies before a firefight breaks out, or activate Focus to slow time for precision disarms and targeted takedowns. You can even throw your weapon when the ammo runs dry to daze an enemy. It’s that kind of game.

Post-campaign, there’s a mode called Tactical Simulation that unlocks after completing Bond’s training. It’s a replay-focused mode set in an MI6 space run by Dr. Selina Tan, played by Gemma Chan. TacSim lets you replay missions with scoring via the Agent Score system, global and friends leaderboards, and an XP progression system that unlocks weapon skins, gadget skins, and cosmetics as you increase your Clearance Level.

007 First Light launches May 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Summer 2026 release on Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-ordering any edition gets you a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which includes 24-hour early access (digital only) plus exclusive in-game skins and outfits. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are limited to physical editions.
