Dragon Dogma’s unique class system, Vocations, returns with an expanded offering in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
In the first game, players could choose between one of three starter Vocations: Fighter, Mage and Strider.
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Fighter and Mage starter Vocations return, while the Strider has been split up to make two new Vocations, the Thief and Archer.
Both the player’s character, called an Arisen, and the AI companions, called Pawns, will start their journey by choosing one of the starter Vocations listed below (note as of this posting there are four confirmed Starter Vocations).
Fighter
Fighters are the up-close and personal melee class. As a Fighter, you’ll utilize a one-handed sword to carve your way through enemies while also wielding a shield to protect yourself and party members with blocks and parries.
As a melee class, Fighters lack the ability to engage combat at a range, making them weak against flying enemies until they’ve been brought down by other Vocations.
Mage
As the classic magic class, Mages wield a staff to cast magic spells to support themselves and party members, and as an offensive to attack enemies at a distance.
Mage’s can attack enemies, heal the party, and bolster party members weapons with enchantments like fire and ice (amongst others).
Because of their healing and support abilities, the Mage is amongst the most popular Vocations for a Pawn.
Thief
If you enjoyed Strider in the first game because of their swiftness, dual wielding daggers and being best at climbing enemies while dealing big damage then you’ll be at home with the Thief.
Thieves strike fast and are extremely agile, allowing them to cling to enemies and go to town with their daggers. The Thief can also steal items from enemies and NPCs.
As a purely melee class, Thieves are weak against flying enemies.
Archer
If you played Strider in the first game because you enjoy ranged combat utilizing a bow and arrows, then Archer is the starter Vocation for you.
Archers excel at range and neutralizing flying enemies that Fighters and Thieves can’t touch.
Upon leveling, players will be able to unlock Advanced Vocations and Hybrid Vocations.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 releases on March 22nd for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
